Beyond the Ribbon: A Partnership-First Approach with Deanna Greenman

In a sport often measured by the height of a jump or the color of a ribbon, Deanna sees a different scoreboard. For her, coaching isn’t just about technical precision—it’s about the quiet, invisible threads of trust that bind a horse and rider together.

The Why Behind The Work

For Deanna, there isn’t one single defining moment that captures everything. Instead, her "why" is found in the collection of small, meaningful moments that shape a season.

“What stands out most when I look back at the moments you’ve captured is the teamwork,” she says.

“Seeing that partnership reflected through the lens feels incredibly special, because it shows the trust and connection that exist beyond any single ride or result.”

It's in the quieter victories - a green horse finding it's confidence, or a rider leaving the ring with a genuine sense of pride - where the real story begins to take shape.

A Focus on Partnership

Deanna’s program is deeply rooted in the idea that riding is a conversation, not a command. She is passionate about helping riders listen to what their horses are communicating, both in and out of the ring

“My program is very partnership-focused. It isn’t about simply teaching a horse to go a certain way—it’s about giving riders the tools to work through mental, physical, and emotional challenges,” she explains.

Success, in her eyes, is seeing a rider become an emotionally regulated, thoughtful partner who puts understanding ahead of frustration, and connection over control.

Building a Culture of Safety

Beyond the show ring, Deanna has created a space where riders of all backgrounds feel supported, both emotionally and physically. Her program is grounded in the idea that the barn should be a place of growth- not just as athletes, but as people.

She believes that the lessons learned in the barn—accountability, resilience, and empathy—stay with riders for a lifetime.

“I want riders to learn how to show up for one another, to celebrate someone else’s success even on their own difficult days,” she says. “Growth isn’t always linear.”

Redefining Victory

In Deanna’s world, winning takes on a broader, more meaningful definition.. While championship ribbons and coolers are wonderful, they are not the only markers of success.

“For some, winning may be a ribbon; for others, it’s overcoming anxiety or building trust with their horse,” Deanna shares. “Helping riders reach those moments and then sharing in their celebration is the most rewarding part of coaching.”

These are the victories that often go unseen - but they are the ones that last.

Why These Photos Matter

As a coach, Deanna recognizes that seasons pass quickly, and how easily the most meaningful moments can slip by. Documenting this chapter wasn't about capturing perfection - it was about preserving the experience as it truly unfolds.

“The real experience lives in the preparation, the encouragement, and the small steps of progress,” she says. “Having photographs allows those memories to become tangible—something we can return to and reconnect with long after the moment has passed.”

The Experience with Marie Roy

Capturing the rythm of the barn requires more than just technical skill - it requires understnanding. For Deanna, working with someone who naturally fits into that environmnent made all the difference.

“Marie has a calm and natural presence that immediately puts riders at ease,” Deanna says. “The images became far more than photographs; they preserved a feeling and a chapter of our journey. For anyone wanting to document their experience in a way that feels genuine, personal, and lasting, I can’t recommend working with Marie enough.”

For those looking to document their experience in a way that feels genuine, personal, and lasting , it becomes about more that photography - it becomes about storytelling.
