A Season of Change: Jocelyn Rhyno & Intuition (Jewels)
In equestrian sport, every partnership between horse and rider tells its own story. Some seasons bring new beginnings, while others mark the closing of an important chapter. For young Atlantic Canadian rider Jocelyn Rhyno, last season was both.
Her longtime partner, Intuition (Jewels), has been an important part of Jocelyn’s riding journey. Together they’ve built experience, confidence, and countless memories in the jumper ring. As Jocelyn prepares to move into the 1.20m junior jumper division, this season marked their final year competing together as a team.
Now, a new partnership is beginning.
After a long search for the right horse, Jocelyn recently welcomed Cajulio (Cody) into her program — a partnership that is already taking her into the next stage of her riding career.

Looking Ahead to the 1.20m Jumpers
For Jocelyn, this year’s show season is all about building a strong foundation with Cody while continuing to develop her riding at a higher level.
“My first goal for this year was to find a new horse. It’s been a long process, but in the end it was worth it. I am so lucky and thankful to welcome Cajulio (Cody) to the family.”
Although she originally expected to step into the 1.20m jumper division later in the summer, the pair has already begun competing at that height.
Now, her focus is on refining their partnership.
“My goal when I come back home is to produce smoother, more efficient rounds at the 1.20 level. I believe this will come as Cody and I get more familiar with each other.”
She also hopes to step into the CET Medal, which would be a brand new experience for both horse and rider.
By the end of the season, Jocelyn’s goals are clear: qualifying for The Royal Winter Fair in the 1.20 Junior Jumper division, and potentially earning a spot in the CET Medal Finals as well.
Learning From the Best
Like many riders, Jocelyn credits much of her growth to the people who have mentored her along the way. One of her biggest influences has been her longtime coach, Geoff Teall, who worked with her from 2019 through 2024.
“He taught me so much in every lesson, and I always felt like I went home as a better rider. He pays attention to even the smallest of details — no stone remains unturned.”
Beyond technical riding skills, those years helped shape Jocelyn’s understanding of horsemanship and discipline in the sport.
“He taught me so many horsemanship rules that I wouldn’t have known otherwise. I will never hold double reins wrong again!”
As Geoff begins his retirement, Jocelyn reflects with gratitude on the knowledge and support he shared throughout her career.
A Moment That Defined Her Career
While Jocelyn has had many memorable experiences in the ring, one moment stands above the rest.
In 2019, she qualified for the USEF Pony Finals with her pony Bold Dream (Stella) — becoming the first Atlantic Canadian rider to qualify for the competition.
Her goal going into the class was simple: ride better the second time around.
“My wish was to make the call back for the second round so I could fix any mistakes I made in my first round. I didn’t want a fancy ribbon — I just wanted to improve my riding.”
Out of 209 riders, only the top 20 would be called back.
Jocelyn not only made the call back — she finished fourth overall.
“Stella was not a fan of indoor arenas, but we managed to overcome everything and place top five. That struggle made the accomplishment even more special.”
Life Outside the Show Ring
When she isn’t riding or competing, Jocelyn keeps herself busy with a wide range of creative hobbies.
One passion that may sound familiar is photography.
“You’ve probably seen me ringside taking photos for my friends.”
She also enjoys yoga, hiking, reading, playing guitar, crocheting, video editing, and swimming — a collection of interests that reflects her curiosity and love of learning new things.
Yoga in particular has become a valuable complement to riding.
“I noticed such a huge difference in my flexibility. I have always been quite inflexible, but practicing yoga has helped so much.”

Closing One Chapter
While a new partnership with Cody is just beginning, Jocelyn’s time with Jewels will always remain an important part of her journey.
Every rider remembers the horses who helped shape them — the ones who taught them confidence, resilience, and how to keep moving forward.
As Jocelyn steps into the 1.20m jumper division, she carries those lessons with her into the next chapter of her career.
And like all great partnerships, the story with Jewels will always remain a meaningful part of the path that brought her here.
