She Bought Him Unbroke at Three. They Ended the Season as Champions: Jordan and Hazbro

There's something quietly extraordinary about Jordan Biddle's story — and it starts long before she ever stepped into the show ring.

Jordan bought Hazbro herself as a three year old unbroke horse. With some help she put thirty days of training on him — and then took it from there. No shortcuts, no hand holding, just a young rider and a green horse figuring it out together.

Before she bought him, she had actually planned to retire from showing entirely. Just enjoy her horse. Leave the ribbons behind.

Then Hazbro changed her mind.

The Work Behind the Season

Jordan is a university student, which means getting to the barn isn't always straightforward. But four to six days a week she finds a way — because consistency, she'll tell you, is what a young horse needs more than anything else.

Through the winter months she gives Hazbro the rest he's earned. The summer show season is demanding and she believes strongly in letting him recover properly before asking him to build again. By the time the months leading into show season arrive the work shifts — weekly lessons, grid work to build confidence, and regular dressage lessons with Erin MacQuarrie to strengthen their flat work

alongside their jumping.

This year the preparation carries extra weight. After showing in the 2'6" divisions at the Coveside Series last season, Jordan and Hazbro are moving up to 3'. The grid work, the dressage, the consistency — it's all been building toward this.

A Season of Firsts — and a Championship

Their first year in the hunter ring together was everything and nothing like what Jordan expected.

"Having a young baby green horse comes with so much stress and pressure," she reflects. But what followed was a season she'll carry with her for the rest of her riding life. Two over fence wins. Second overall in the provincial standings. And at the end of August — Champion of the baby green division.

"These awards were a huge accomplishment for me and I could not have been prouder."

Not bad for a horse who had never shown. Not bad at all.

On Goals and Growth

This season Jordan's focus is clear and specific — improve the hack, keep the canter consistent all the way to the final fence, and work on her own position and equitation.

"I am very grateful to have a young horse who allows me to take time to focus on myself," she says.

That kind of self awareness — knowing what needs work and being honest about it — is exactly what shapes a rider over time.

The Support System

Jordan is quick to name her people. Her coach and barn family. Her parents. Her friends who show up every step of the way. But when asked who her biggest support system is, her answer is easy. Hazbro.

"I feel the most support walking into the ring with him as my partner and always feel so confident and ready knowing that he will always give it his all as soon as we step into the ring."

Outside the Ring

Away from the show grounds Jordan and Hazbro's favourite adventures involve trails, fields, and the kind of freedom that reminds you why you fell in love with horses in the first place. They gallop through fields. They explore trails together. And somewhere on Jordan's bucket list — a ride to the beach.

The lakes have been pretty good in the meantime.

Special thanks to Jordan's mom and best friends Erin Barrington and Nicole Miller for keeping horse and rider looking their best ringside all season.

This blog was originally shared in a previous season and has been updated and refreshed. Jordan's story — and Hazbro's — was too good not to revisit.
