So excited to feature Jordan Biddle and her beautiful young gelding Hazbro today. They showed this past season in the 2'6" divisions at the Coveside Series and will be moving up to 3' this summer. Jordan put in her winning bid for her package at the NSHJA banquet in the fall, and surprise - did it again this year! I wonder if anyone will be able to beat her next year. Apparently, it's quite a battle! Thanks, Jordan, for your ongoing support.
Q: Jordan, how do you typically prepare for an upcoming show season?
A: Throughout the winter I aim to stay consistent and fit for both myself and my horse. Being a university student sometimes makes getting to the barn difficult but I do my best to get out there 4-6 days a week. I like to make sure that my horse gets lots of vacation time in the winter to ensure that he gets his well needed rest especially because the summer is so busy for us. In the months leading up to show season I like to lesson at least once a week to ensure that my horse and I are both comfortable with the heights that we are jumping, especially this year where we plan to move from 2’6 to 3'. We do lots of grid work to build confidence and we also take regular dressage lessons with Erin MacQuarrie to aim to get stronger in our flat work as-well as jumping
Q: What specific goals do you have for this year's show season?
A: This question makes me think a lot about my overall goals for myself and my horse. This summer will be my second year showing in the hunter ring and also the second year for my 5-year-old horse. Last year, he proved to be quite consistent over fences, but we struggled in our hack classes. My goal for us this year is to improve in our hack, and I also want to continue to focus on staying consistent over fences. My horse's canter naturally stays the same pace, so my main focus is to help him stay on one rhythm throughout the course and keep the canter consistent as the end of the course gets closer. My specific goal for myself is my position; I really want to improve my position and my equitation. I am very grateful to have a young horse who allows me to take time to focus on myself.
Q: Who do you rely on for encouragement and support during the show season?
A: I have the most incredible group of friends who support me every step of the way, especially during show season. My coach and barn family are always behind me, supporting me. My parents and my family also play a huge role in supporting me. My biggest support system would honestly be my horse. I feel the most support walking into the ring with him as my partner and always feel so confident and ready knowing that he will always give it his all as soon as we step into the ring.
Q: What has been your proudest moment in your athletic career so far?
A: My proudest moment would have definitely been in the summer of 2024. Having a young baby green horse comes with so much stress and pressure, but I am lucky enough to have so many accomplishments and achievements from that special year. This was my first year showing in the hunter ring, let alone on a horse who had never shown. I bought Hazbro myself as a 3-year-old unbroke horse. With help, I put 30 days of training on him, but then I took it on myself from there. Before buying Haz, I had planned to retire from horse showing and just enjoy life with my horse. In August of last year, we ended the season as Champion of the baby green division with two over-fence wins and second overall in the provincial standings for the year. These awards were a huge accomplishment for me, and I could not have been prouder.
Q: What do you enjoy doing when you're not training or competing?
A: Having a young horse means that I am always trying to find fun and exciting things for us to experience together outside of the ring. Our favourite thing to do is to go on trail rides. We love to go on adventures alone or with other riders. We love to ride in the fields and go for a good gallop on trails, one of our other favourite things to do is to go play in the water at lakes. My dream is to take my horse to the beach but so far the lakes have been just as fun!
Hazbro and I are tremendously grateful to call Creekside Equestrian Centre home, we have an incredible support system and barn family which we are so thankful for. Jessie Stewart is my coach who has brought us on leaps and bounds since we arrived at Creekside last fall. Last summer I was grateful enough to have multiple people help me ring side and ensure that my horse and I look our best before stepping into the ring; my mom and two of my best friends Erin Barrington and Nicole Miller were always ensuring that we looked our best. My horse Hazbro wears his Butet tack: Bridle, Saddle, and Martingale. I always show in my Struck breeches, AA show coat, and my Samshield custom helmet from Blueberry Hill Boutique.
